Safe Food Prep

Following food safety practices helps protect you and your baby from foodborne illness. Here's what you need to know:

  • Wash your hands with soap and warm water before eating or preparing food.

  • Wash vegetables and fruit with water before eating or cooking.

  • Cook beef, chicken, turkey, fish, and seafood until well done.

  • Heat hot dogs, cold cuts, and deli meats (bologna, salami, ham) until steaming hot (165°F) before eating.

  • If you eat fish once a week or more, ask WIC staff or your health care provider for more information.
