Easy Meal and Snack Ideas

You and your baby do best when you eat regularly throughout the day. Drink plenty of water as well.

Here is a sample menu using some of your WIC-approved foods:

  • Breakfast

    Eggs, whole-wheat toast or English muffin, banana, and low-fat milk

  • Morning Snack

    Plain yogurt and orange slices

  • Lunch

    Chili with beans, cornbread or tortilla, broccoli, and water

  • Afternoon Snack

    Wheat crackers, sliced cheese, veggie sticks, and 100% juice

  • Dinner

    Baked or grilled chicken, brown rice or quinoa, carrots, salad with lettuce and tomato, and low-fat milk

    • Apple slices or banana with peanut butter
    • Applesauce or fruit cup
    • Cheese slice on whole wheat toast with tomatoes
    • Carrot sticks dipped in hummus
    • Unsalted nuts and raisins
    • Low-fat yogurt with fruit
    • Vegetable or fruit smoothie
    • Hard-boiled egg
    • WIC-approved cereal
  • When you’re on the go, look for:

    • Grilled chicken sandwich (no mayo)
    • Grilled hamburger or cheeseburger (no mayo)
    • Salad with chicken or beans
    • Pizza with vegetables like peppers, tomatoes, and mushrooms
    • Bean and cheese burrito with grilled vegetables
    • Baked potato with vegetables and cheese
    • Fruit as your side
    • Water, low-fat milk, or 100% juice

Mini Meals

If you don’t feel like eating, try a mini meal. Pick a food from each group.

EXAMPLE: Cold cereal + Lowfat milk + Banana
